About me – Naomi Clayden

I give the therapy that children need, when they need it, for as long as required.

I am passionate about enabling children with special needs to receive the treatment that they require, when they need it and for as long or short a time as is necessary. I work with children who have physical and/or learning difficulties, as well as those with sensory processing difficulties or developmental co-ordination difficulties (dyspraxia).

My assessment and treatment sessions are eclectic in their content, always putting the child at the centre and remembering that therapy has to be fun. I believe that it is crucially important to work with children at their own level, using alternative methods of communication, as appropriate.

I'm a teacher too

My additional training as a nursery and early year's teacher is invaluable in my work. I understand the challenges of the National Curriculum and integration, and ensure that treatment programmes are adapted to complement a child's Individual Educational Plan (IEP). In addition to focusing on functional skills such as daily independence, handwriting and play, I can advise on early maths concepts and perceptual skills. Addressing sensory processing difficulties is an integral part of my practice.

Working with parents/carers and other professionals

I work in partnership with parents and carers and, when necessary, other therapists in order to provide a programme tailored to meet the specific needs of individual children.

Independence has enabled me to meet the needs of each child

In order to meet the specific needs of individual children, I began working as an independent Paediatric OT in 2003. My range of training and experience enable me to accurately match specific need to appropriate treatments I worked for the NHS for many years, concluding as the Lead OT for a large and busy county community service. My experience includes Paediatric Occupational Therapy in children's hospitals, special schools, community based work and the United States Air Force schools in the UK.
